Richard McGuire - Skye guiding since 1995

|
The business was established in 1995 by Richard 'Paddy' McGuire, after a varied career which has so far included a Biology degree, a postgraduate library diploma and work as a greenkeeper, trainee motor mechanic, farm labourer, research assistant, school librarian and mobile library driver. Originally known as Blaven Guiding, that name was dropped when professional indemnity insurance for trading under a business name, rather than as an individual, trebled. Paddy was brought up on Skye, began going to the hills as a schoolboy, and has walked, scrambled and climbed in the Cuillin for over 30 years. He completed his Munros in 1997 and has walked and climbed in Norway, the European Alps, Majorca, Crete and the Canary Islands. He holds Summer and Winter Mountain Leader certificates, is First Aid qualified, has been a member of the local Mountain Rescue team since 1991 and has for several years been Chairman and Equipment Officer.
