Equipment

For all courses you should have the basics appropriate to hillwalking in Scotland, with at least the following:

  • Boots with soles in good condition
  • Waterproof jacket and trousers
  • Spare warm clothing (fleece or sweaters)
  • Hat and gloves
  • Food and drink
  • Plastic survival bag
  • Whistle
  • Rucksack with space for your personal kit, a helmet and harness and possibly some group equipment (as you will be asked to take your turn carrying a rope or other safety gear)
  • Optional extras include:

  • Camera
  • Walking poles (providing you can attach them securely to your rucksack when they are not in use)
  • Cuillin map - Harveys Superwalker is the best available so far
  • We will provide any technical equipment required (except for winter courses), e.g. helmet (which you can expect to wear for a significant part of most days in the Cuillin), harness, slings, karabiners, ropes etc, or you can bring your own along if you have it (though we reserve the right to inspect this and insist you use ours if we have any doubts about its suitability).
